FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's tennis team crushed Fairmont State, 8-1, here Friday afternoon in a mutual Mountain East Conference opener.
Coach Sam McCullough's Hilltoppers (2-0, 1-0) swept all three doubles matches and posted straight-set wins in five of the six singles matches to post the easy win.
Santiago Gutierrez, Martin Moncayo, Andrew Ponder, Matt Tully and Luke Flanagan delivered singles victories for the Black and Gold.
Gutierrez and Ponder teamed up for the win at No. 1 doubles while Moncayo and Pablo Cimorra rolling at No. 2 doubles and the pairing of Flanagan and Tully coasting to victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Hilltoppers will head to Erie, Pa. on Friday for the start of the Intercollegiate Tennis Open.
