Women's Basketball | 2/6/2014 8:13:00 PM

Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – The fast-rising West Liberty University women's basketball team opened the second half with a 25-5 run and never looked back here Thursday night in blasting Concord, 80-61, in Mountain East Conference action at the Carter Center.
The sixth straight win for Coach Lynn Ullom's surging Hilltoppers (14-8, 11-5) lifted them into a tie with Urbana for second place in the MEC standings as the Blue Knights (14-6, 11-5) dropped an 87-77 decision at Fairmont State.
The victory also avenged last month's, 79-78, loss to the Mountain Lions (9-11, 7-9).
The Hilltoppers never trailed in the revenge win but Concord's Andrea Bertrand kept the hosts in the game with 17 points and 8 rebounds in the first 20 minutes and West Liberty settled for a 37-32 halftime lead.
Things changed quickly when play resumed as Bri Kamarec opened the second half with a 3-point bomb and an inspired WLU defensive effort held Concord to just 4 points over the first 8 minutes of the second half.
Meanwhile, Kamarec and Liz Flowers were filling up the cylinder at the other end of the court as the visitors scored 25 of the first 30 points in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Kamarec had 10 points during the surge while Flowers accounted for 8 more as the Hilltoppers expanded their 37-32 halftime margin into a 62-37 bulge as the clock ticked past the 12-minute mark and coasted to their sixth straight win.
Flowers finished with a game-high 26 points while Kamarec matched her career-high for the second straight game with 20 points while adding 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a pair of steals. Emily Bucon came off the bench with 10 points while Kailee Howe just missed a double-double with 8 points and a game-high 10 assists.
Bertrand finished with 25 points and 9 rebounds for Concord, which also got a dozen points from Sissy Wagner.
West Liberty heads even farther south on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game at UVA-Wise.
