WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The unbeaten West Liberty University women's tennis team notched its biggest win of the young season on Tuesday, powering past Slippery Rock (Pa.) by a 6-3 count in an NCAA Atlantic Region showdown at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
The two perennial Atlantic Region powers each came into the season after earning NCAA Tournament berths last year but Coach
Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (4-0) jumped on The Rock from the very first match and never looked back.
West Liberty won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles action and won four of the six singles matches – three in straight sets – to close out the impressive triumph.
Raissa Wischi,
Emily Dawson,
Andrea Puga and
Alex Barr all claimed singles victories for the hosts. Wischi teamed up with
Lauren Howard for the win at No. 1 doubles with Barr and
Raquel Cabero prevailing at No. 2 doubles.
The Hilltoppers return to MEC action on Friday with a 4 p.m. match at Fairmont State.
