Box Score
ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team suffered through one of its coldest shooting nights in years here Thursday as the Lady Hilltoppers dropped a 67-57 decision at Davis & Elkins.
The Senators (5-5, 4-2) used a 12-0 first half run to break open a close game and maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half in notching their fourth straight West Virginia Conference win.
West Liberty (6-3, 4-1), which saw its own four-game winning streak go by the boards, trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half before closing the gap to 27-18 at intermission.
Two Jenn Mohney free throws pulled the Hilltoppers within 6 points, 29-23, with 17:31 remaining but D&E scored 10 of the next 13 points to open up a double-digit lead, 39-26, and the Hilltoppers never recovered.
West Liberty's poor shooting night prevented the Hilltoppers from sustaining a run as WLU hit just 16-of-57 (28 percent) from the floor for the game. That was the lowest shooting percentage for a West Liberty team since the 2007-08 season while the 16 field goals were a program-low since the 2004-05 campaign.
Freshman Jasmin led the Hilltoppers with 15 points off the bench, all in the second half, while senior post Meghan Wiseman had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Mohney rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
Davis & Elkins got 15 points and 12 rebounds from Jorden Lykes and 15 points from Page Turner.
The West Liberty women return home to host Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the ASRC.
