SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the young season Thursday afternoon by knocking off perennial NCAA Division II Atlantic Region power Slippery Rock, 5-4, on The Rock's home courts.
    Coach Heather Gallagher's Hilltoppers (5-0) won four of the six singles matches to pull out the win after dropping two of the three doubles matches.
    Clinching three-set singles wins were posted by Lauren Howard at No. 1 singles and Alex Barr at No. 4 singles as West Liberty spoiled the dual match opener for Slippery Rock, which is coming off its sixth consecutive NCAA regional tournament bid.
    Raissa Wischi and Zineb Houssaini dominated their singles foes in straight set wins while Barr and Houssaini teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.
    The West Liberty women will be idle this weekend but return to action on Monday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan in a 4 p.m. match at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
