BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The No. 25-ranked West Liberty University women's basketball team got back on track in a big way here Saturday afternoon, blasting an outgunned Bluefield State squad by a 103-59 score at Ned Shott Gymnasium.
Coming off their first loss in two months, a disappointing 72-60 upset at Fairmont State on Thursday, the Hilltoppers (12-2, 7-1) opened the game with a
Laura Malernee 3-point bomb off the opening tip and never looked back in handing the Lady Blues (1-12, 0-9) their 10th straight setback.
West Liberty needed less than 5 minutes to grab a double-digit lead at 12-2 and put the game on ice with a 13-0 run over the final 3 minutes of the first half to take a 55-24 advantage into the locker room.
The West Virginia Conference-leading Hilltoppers scored 17 of the first 19 points in the second half for a 72-26 lead at the 15-minute mark as head coach
Lynn Ullom began clearing his bench.
Tori Hansen led six double-figure scorers for the winners with 22 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the floor.
Kayla Ayers added 13 points and 8 rebounds off the bench while
Jenni Robbins weighed in with 12 points and 8 assists.
