SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Defending NCAA Division II Atlantic Region champion Slippery Rock muscled out a 6-3 victory against the West Liberty women's tennis team here Wednesday afternoon.
The Rock, a perennial eastern tennis power, grabbed a 2-1 lead after the opening doubles matches and swept the bottom three singles matches to complete the win.
The Hilltoppers' Marina Quintana won the match of the day at No. 2 singles. The reigning West Virginia Conference Player of the Year dropped the opening set of her match against Dunja Drmac by a 6-1 score and had to survive a tiebreaker in the second set before pulling out a 10-6 win in the decisive third set.
Emma Windsor rolled to a straight-set win for West Liberty at No. 3 singles while the No. 3 doubles tandem of Kayla Saunders and Moleigh Poling pulled out a 9-7 victory in their match.
The Hilltoppers return to WVIAC play on Sunday when they host Shepherd in an 11 a.m. match at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.
