Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — West Liberty put together a strong all-around performance Tuesday night, sweeping Point Park 3-0 at the ASRC by set scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-20.
The victory moved the Hilltoppers to 4-14 overall and 3-1 in Mountain East Conference play, while Point Park fell to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in the MEC.
West Liberty finished the night with a 47-30 advantage in kills and hit .250 as a team while holding Point Park to a .165 hitting percentage. The Hilltoppers also held advantages in assists (43-27), digs (54-41) and service aces (7-1). Point Park finished with a 6-3 edge in blocks.
Julia Birck led the Hilltoppers with 14 kills on 19 attacks while hitting an impressive .632 for the match.
Dakoda Keni directed the West Liberty attack with 40 assists while adding three kills and four digs.
Taylor Speake recorded a team-high 18 digs and added three service aces, while
Adrienne Staib contributed six kills, two aces and two blocks.
West Liberty faced a late challenge in the opening set after Point Park rallied to tie the score at 23-23. Birck answered with back-to-back kills, both assisted by Keni, to give the Hilltoppers the 25-23 victory.
The Hilltoppers then produced their best scoring stretch of the night in the second set.
After Point Park took a 19-18 lead,
Giana Bogunovich tied the set with a kill before Staib put West Liberty ahead 20-19. The Hilltoppers continued to build their advantage, with kills from Bogunovich, Keni and
Sidney Keni helping West Liberty close out the set, 25-20.
West Liberty also overcame an early deficit in the third set. After Point Park moved in front 4-3, the Hilltoppers scored five of the next six points to take an 8-5 lead, with Keni and Birck recording kills during the run.
The Hilltoppers maintained the advantage throughout the remainder of the set.
Lily Brinker served an ace to bring West Liberty to match point before
Amira DuPree closed out the sweep with a kill from Keni for the 25-20 victory.
West Liberty returns to action Friday when the Hilltoppers host Frostburg State at the ASRC in another MEC matchup.
