ROANOKE, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's golf team closed out the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational with a fifth-place finish Tuesday at Stonewall Resort.
The Hilltoppers finished the 54-hole tournament at 28-over par, placing fifth in the 17-team field. West Liberty opened with a 20-over 308 before carding an 8-over 296 in the second round and an even-par final round.
Adam Gill and
Justin Doerr led the Hilltoppers individually, tying for 13th place at 5-over par. Gill finished rounds of 78, 73 and 70, while Doerr posted rounds of 79, 74 and 68.
Ethan Cook finished tied for 26th at 9-over par after rounds of 79, 70 and 76.
Chatum Courson tied for 39th at 13-over, recording rounds of 72, 79 and 78.
Campbell Koegler rounded out the West Liberty lineup in 51st place at 18-over par with rounds of 81, 79 and 74.
Glenville State won the team title at 4-over par, followed by IUP at 10-over, Bluefield State at 23-over and Charleston at 27-over. West Liberty finished one stroke behind Charleston.
Gill and Doerr's tied-for-13th finishes highlighted the Hilltoppers' individual effort, with both players finishing inside the top 15 of the 91-player field.
The Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational was hosted by Davis & Elkins at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke.

The Hilltoppers return to action Sept. 21-22 at the WCU Battlefield Classic, hosted by West Chester University at The Links at Gettysburg in Gettysburg, Pa.
