AKRON, Ohio – The West Liberty University men's and women's track & field teams opened competition Thursday at the Northeast Ohio Open, hosted by the University of Akron, with a strong showing in the javelin to kick off the two-day meet.
On the women's side, Brooklyn Lucas led the way with a third-place finish, posting a mark of 32.65 meters (107' 1"). Lucas' podium finish highlighted a solid start for the Hilltoppers against a competitive field.
Ashlyn Moore also competed in the event, placing sixth with a throw of 16.29 meters (53' 5").
In the men's javelin, West Liberty placed two athletes in the top seven, led by freshman Seth Wisman, who finished fifth with a mark of 47.33 meters (155' 3"). Mason Fraley followed closely behind in seventh place with a throw of 42.19 meters (138' 5").
The Hilltoppers' opening-day performances set the tone heading into Friday's full slate of competition, which will feature a complete schedule of field and running events.
Competition resumes Friday at noon with field events, followed by running events beginning at 1 p.m., including the 4x100-meter relays, hurdles, sprints, distance races, and the 4x400-meter relays to close out the meet.
