WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team wraps up the 2026 regular season this weekend with a four-game Mountain East Conference series against Wheeling.

The Hilltoppers and Cardinals will open the series Friday with a doubleheader at EQT Park in Washington, Pa., beginning at 4 p.m., before closing the regular season Sunday at Kovalick Field with Senior Day festivities and a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

West Liberty enters the final weekend at 14-28 overall and 11-13 in MEC play , coming off a 5-4 comeback win over Indiana (Pa.) earlier this week. Wheeling, one of the top teams in the league, brings a 33-13 overall record and 18-6 conference mark into the series .

Offensively, West Liberty is powered by junior first baseman Hunter White, who leads the team with a .407 batting average, .696 slugging percentage, nine home runs, and 35 RBIs. White also tops the Hilltoppers in hits (55) and total bases (94), making him one of the most productive hitters in the conference.

Austin Wittreich (.307) and Aaron Flowers (.269) provide additional support in the lineup, while Giacomo Dolce and Luke Foley have combined for 74 hits and 45 runs scored this season. Foley also adds speed on the bases, leading the team with four stolen bases.

On the mound, John Thompson has been a steady presence with a team-best five wins and 47 strikeouts across 59.0 innings. Colby Conn and Mason Bille round out the rotation, combining for over 90 innings of work this spring.

Wheeling enters the weekend as one of the most balanced teams in the MEC, hitting .305 as a team in conference play while posting a 3.95 ERA on the mound .

Edward Mateo leads the Cardinals with a .417 batting average, 65 hits, and 60 runs scored, while Luke Meyer adds power with a .590 slugging percentage and seven home runs. Gavin Millians anchors the middle of the order with a team-high 42 RBIs.

On the pitching side, Sebastian Khan headlines the staff with an impressive 2.17 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 74.2 innings, while Dom Carlson provides another strong option with a 3.03 ERA and six wins.

The weekend series carries added importance in the Mountain East Conference North Division race:

  • Wheeling: 33-13 overall, 18-6 MEC (.750)

  • Frostburg State: 30-16 overall, 17-7 MEC (.708)

The rivalry between the two programs has produced competitive results in recent years. West Liberty and Wheeling split last season's meetings, including a 9-7 Hilltopper win on the road and a 5-4 victory in neutral-site play.

First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. at EQT Park, with Sunday's Senior Day twinbill beginning at 1 p.m. in West Liberty.
