4/11/2026 6:41:00 PM

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team split a Mountain East Conference doubleheader with Point Park on Saturday at Kovalick Field, rallying for a 5-4 win in game one before falling 4-1 in the nightcap.

With the split, the Hilltoppers move to 11-19 overall on the season.

Game One – West Liberty 5, Point Park 4

West Liberty used a decisive fifth inning to erase a three-run deficit and claim the opener.

Trailing 3-0, the Hilltoppers erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Luke Foley delivered the big swing with a bases-clearing double to tie the game, and moments later, Luke Marsh followed with a two-run home run to give West Liberty a 5-3 advantage.

Point Park added a run in the seventh, but John Thompson shut the door to secure the complete-game victory. Thompson went all seven innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits while striking out eight.

Offensively, Foley finished with three RBIs, while Marsh added two RBIs on his home run. Hunter White, Giacomo Dolce, and Lucas Marsh each scored in the pivotal fifth inning.

Game Two – Point Park 4, West Liberty 1

Point Park responded in game two, using timely hitting and strong pitching to earn the split.

The Pioneers struck early with a solo home run in the first inning and added two more runs in the third to take control. West Liberty's lone run came in the fourth inning when Hunter White launched a solo home run to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Point Park added an insurance run in the fifth and limited the Hilltoppers to just two hits on the day.

Austin Wittreich recorded a triple for West Liberty's other hit, while White accounted for the team's lone RBI.

On the mound, Colby Conn allowed just one earned run over six innings, but defensive miscues proved costly as the Hilltoppers committed four errors in the loss.
