WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University acrobatics and tumbling team turned in a strong performance Wednesday evening but came up just short in a tightly contested meet against Canisius at the ASRC.
The Hilltoppers finished with a 235.865 team score, narrowly falling to Canisius, which posted a 238.465 to claim the victory.
West Liberty opened the meet with a solid showing in the Compulsory Event, totaling 34.60 points. The Hilltoppers delivered strong routines in the Pyramid Heat (9.70) and Toss Heat (9.30), helping keep the early portion of the meet close.
In the Acro Event, West Liberty finished with 25.15 points, highlighted by an 8.95 in the 5-Element Heat. Canisius held a slight edge after posting 28.20 in the event.
The Hilltoppers continued to battle in the Pyramid Event, recording 27.50 points with consistent performances across the three heats, including a 9.35 in the Inversion Heat and 9.15 in the Synchronized Heat.
West Liberty added 25.40 points in the Toss Event, led by a 9.25 in the Synchronized Heat, while Canisius used a strong round in the event to extend its advantage.
The Hilltoppers turned in one of their most consistent performances in the Tumbling Event, totaling 45.025 points. West Liberty recorded solid scores across the six heats, including an 8.95 in the Aerial Pass and an 8.50 in the Open Pass.
West Liberty closed the meet with 47.125 points in the Team Event, highlighted by a 9.075 in the Open Pass portion of the routine, but the late push was not quite enough to overcome the earlier deficit.
The Hilltoppers return to the mat Friday March 13 at St.Leo.
