Hilltoppers Open Marty Pushkin Invitational with Strong Showing in Throws and Distance

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's and women's track & field teams opened competition Friday at the Marty Pushkin Invitational, hosted by West Virginia University, with several strong performances across the throwing events and distance races.

The Hilltoppers were led in the field by a trio of top-eight finishes in the women's hammer throw. Sierra Davis paced West Liberty with a fifth-place finish, recording a throw of 42.17 meters (138-4). Leah Delaney followed closely in seventh at 39.86 meters (130-9), while Haley Norris added an eighth-place finish with a mark of 38.21 meters (125-4).

On the men's side, Mason Fraley highlighted the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 43.76 meters (143-7) to place sixth overall. Cody Bolyard (10th, 34.38m) and Aidan Horan (13th, 30.36m) also contributed for the Hilltoppers.

In the women's javelin, Brooklyn Lucas led West Liberty with a fifth-place finish, reaching 29.08 meters (95-5), while Kiara Kesner placed 12th with a throw of 18.52 meters (60-9).

The Hilltoppers also made an impact on the track in the men's 5,000 meters. Freshman Joshua Gill turned in an impressive performance, placing second overall with a personal-best time of 15:10.73. Teammate Jasper Brown also cracked the top 10, finishing eighth in 15:36.91.

West Liberty will return to action Saturday for the final day of competition at the Marty Pushkin Invitational.
