WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The host West Liberty University women's wrestling team delivered a strong opening-day performance Friday at the NCAA Super Region 2 Tournament, advancing three wrestlers to the semifinals and positioning itself firmly in the team race heading into championship Saturday.
Three Hilltoppers Advance to Semifinals
At 124 pounds, Mariah Mills powered into the semifinals with back-to-back victories. Mills opened with a fall over Pitt-Johnstown's Isabel Alvarez at 2:53 before earning a 5-1 decision against Lehigh's Alexa Ciliotta in the quarterfinals.
At 131 pounds, Cassia Zammit needed just 20 seconds to make an early statement, pinning York's Barbara Hartman in the opening round. Zammit followed with a 5-0 decision over Lock Haven's Isabella Devito in the quarterfinals to secure her semifinal berth .
Jamie Shapton advanced at 138 pounds. After receiving a first-round bye, Shapton dominated Cedar Crest's Sarah Seltzer with a 10-0 technical fall in 2:08 in the quarterfinals.

Six additional Hilltoppers remain alive in the consolation brackets and will look to add valuable team points on day two and battle their way to a third place finish.
The top-three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the NCAA championships in Coralville, Iowa March 6-7.
Day two begins Saturday at 11 a.m. inside the ASRC.
