West Liberty to Host NCAA Women’s Wrestling Super Region Two Championships

2/18/2026 12:00:00 PM

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — West Liberty University will take center stage in collegiate athletics history as it hosts the NCAA Women's Wrestling Super Region Two Championships, February 20–21 inside the Academic, Sports & Recreation Complex (ASRC).

The championship marks a historic milestone for women's wrestling, as the 2025-26 season represents the sport's first year as an official NCAA championship sport. After earning NCAA emerging sport status in 2020 and surpassing the 40-program threshold required for full championship designation, women's wrestling has officially arrived on the national stage.

West Liberty Athletics is proud to serve as host for Super Region Two, welcoming teams from across the region for two days of high-level competition with NCAA Championship berths on the line.

"This is exciting to be part of history as we host the first-ever NCAA Super Region Two National Qualifier," said West Liberty women's head coach Troy Bell. "It's another milestone for our ladies wrestling team and for West Liberty University as we continue to host exciting events on The Hilltop. February 20–21, teams from across the region will be competing for their spot at the first-ever NCAA Women's Wrestling National Championship in Coralville, Iowa, March 6–7."

West Liberty Director of Wrestling and men's head coach Danny Irwin echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the university's commitment to growing the sport.

"When we announced women's wrestling here at West Liberty, we wanted to be a leader for how schools should support the sport," Irwin said. "Hosting the first-ever NCAA Regional helps continue to demonstrate that, and I believe the other teams will notice that during their time here."

With history unfolding inside the ASRC, West Liberty once again positions itself at the forefront of collegiate wrestling, reinforcing its tradition of excellence and leadership on the national stage.
