FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The No. 18-ranked West Liberty University wrestling team closed out its dual schedule Saturday afternoon with a 33-19 victory over Fairmont State.
The Hilltoppers won seven of the 10 bouts, including four falls and a technical fall, to cap their regular season on a strong note.
Fairmont State struck first at 125 pounds, where Jorden Williams edged Caiden Harbert in a tight 3-2 decision. The Falcons extended their lead at 133 as Trace Ragland pinned Brady Donovan at the one-minute mark to give FSU a 9-0 advantage.
West Liberty responded in dominant fashion beginning at 141. Senior Khyvon Grace ignited the rally with a 16-1 technical fall over Ryan Martin at the 6:42 mark, cutting into the deficit and swinging momentum.
The Hilltoppers took control over the next three weights with a string of falls. At 149, Joey Sentipal pinned Shane Hatfield in 2:09. Nico Taddy followed with a fall at 157, putting Armon Nettey away in 2:58. Bodie Morgan kept the surge going at 165, securing a first-period pin over Austin High in just 1:06 to give West Liberty a commanding lead.
Fairmont State picked up a major decision at 174 as Brock Evans defeated Lucas Zombotti, 12-1, but the Hilltoppers answered right back.
At 184, Levi Abbott collected a forfeit victory, adding six more team points. Oliver Byerly extended the lead at 197 with a 14-3 major decision over Cooper Durst.
Fairmont State closed the dual with a fall at heavyweight, as Tyler Wise pinned Vincent Parke in 1:50, but it wasn't enough to overcome West Liberty's dominant middle-weight stretch.
