NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The West Liberty University men's and women's indoor track and field teams returned to competition Saturday with an impressive day of performances at Muskie Meet #1, hosted by Muskingum University at the Muskingum-Bullock Health and Wellness Complex.
The Hilltoppers were led by dominant relay efforts, individual event victories, and a new school record as both squads continued to build momentum early in the indoor season.
Relays Set the Tone
West Liberty swept both 4,000-meter medley relays, opening the meet in strong fashion.
The women's 4,000m medley relay of Lacey Dimit, Naomi Young, Katie Rutherford, Lexi Wynn, Gretchen House, Ally Hicks, and Kenzie Upole captured first place with a time of 13:21.36.
On the men's side, Francis Toohey, Zachary Workman, Michael Niggemyer, and Robert Allen secured the win in 10:33.40, while a Hilltopper "B" squad featuring Jasper Brown, Christian Rutherford, Finlay Lorimer, Josh Gill, and Shepherd Richey followed closely behind in 10:55.70.
The women's 4x200-meter relay delivered one of the meet's top moments, as Ky'Ara Ross, Sierra Lanham, Kaylee Davis, and Hannah Rowan finished second while setting a new West Liberty school record with a time of 1:47.33. The men's 4x200 relay placed fifth.
Sprint & Hurdle Highlights
Ross continued her standout day by winning the women's 60-meter dash in 7.82 seconds, then adding a runner-up finish in the 200 meters (26.29). Lanham placed fourth in the 200 (26.94).
On the men's side, Tristin Ohler placed third in both the 60-meter dash (6.95) and the 200 meters (22.73).
In the hurdles, Marissa Scott finished second in the women's 60m hurdles (9.51), while Sophie Abraham took sixth (10.03). The men's hurdlers placed three athletes inside the top eight, led by Seth Wisman in fourth (8.99), followed by Reese Burnside (7th, 9.04) and George Donovic (8th, 9.38).
Distance Depth on Display
West Liberty showcased strong depth in the distance events. Lacey Dimit placed second in the women's 1000 meters (3:12.73), with Naomi Young fourth (3:15.09) and Katie Rutherford sixth (3:23.40). Gretchen House (12th) and Ally Hicks (14th) competed in the mile run.
In the men's 1000 meters, Francis Toohey finished fourth (2:35.88), Zachary Workman fifth (2:36.26), and Michael Niggemyer eighth (2:43.05).
Field Event Performances
The Hilltoppers added multiple top-10 finishes in the field events. Isaah Beard placed fourth in the men's long jump (6.48m), while George Donovic earned a third-place finish in the men's high jump (1.93m). Brijaun Baylor placed sixth in the triple jump (12.39m).
In the throws, Sierra Davis finished seventh in the women's weight throw (13.43m), and Rylyn Bielinski placed seventh in the women's shot put (10.67m).
In the vaults, Dominick Gagum placed seventh in the men's pole vault (3.65m), with John Bowen finishing 10th (3.35m).As a team the women finished fourth the men tied for fifth.
