Morgantown, W.Va. – West Liberty University kicked off Day One of the Mountain East Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mylan Park with several strong performances across the board, highlighted by top finishes in the decathlon, heptathlon, and sprint preliminaries.
Men's Decathlon Leads the Way
Jacob Taylor turned in a solid first day in the decathlon, placing third in the 100-meter dash (11.76, 699 points) and 400-meter dash (53.04, 680 points), while adding strong marks in the long jump (5.82m), shot put (7.99m), and high jump (1.53m). Taylor's consistency has him firmly in the mix heading into Day Two.
Teammate Malachi Stewart also put together a steady series of events, highlighted by a seventh-place finish in the shot put (8.48m) and eighth-place efforts in the 100-meter dash and long jump.
Patterson and Ross Shine in 200m Prelims
Hunter Patterson blazed to a second-place finish in the men's 200-meter prelims with a time of 21.20 seconds (+1.5m/s), easily qualifying for the finals. On the women's side, Ky'Ara Ross continued her strong sophomore campaign, qualifying fifth in the women's 200m with a 24.73 (+0.8m/s) showing. Tristin Ohler (22.02) and Sierra Lanham (25.44) also posted competitive marks but narrowly missed advancing.
Heptathlon Battle for Martin
Ashley Martin battled through a busy day in the heptathlon, showing her versatility. She clocked 18.11 seconds in the 100m hurdles, cleared 1.26 meters in the high jump, threw 7.93 meters in the shot put, and ran 27.72 seconds in the 200m to sit in a strong position heading into Day Two.
Solid Marks in Distance and Throws
In the 10,000 meters, Robert Allen placed seventh on the men's side with a 32:08.02 finish, earning two team points, while Morgan Lesnansky mirrored that effort for the women, clocking a 39:45.12 for seventh.
In the throws, Haley Norris delivered an eighth-place finish in the women's hammer throw (44.30m) to secure a point, while Brooklyn Lucas landed a fourth-place effort in the women's javelin (32.30m), picking up five points for the Hilltoppers.
More Qualifiers on the Track
George Donovic earned his spot in the finals of the men's 400m hurdles with a 56.39 run, while Madelyn Cisar and Kiara Kesner represented West Liberty in the women's hurdles prelims.
