Toppers Travel to Slippery Rock for Midweek Non-Conference Matchup

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team hits the road Wednesday for a midweek non-conference showdown against Slippery Rock. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Jack Critchfield Park.

The Hilltoppers are coming off a 9-4 victory over Point Park on Sunday, snapping a six-game losing streak in the final contest of a four-game weekend series. Ryan Talbert drove in three runs, Connor Huzicka added two RBIs, and Jacob Watson earned the win on the mound. West Liberty enters Wednesday's game with a 17-20 overall record and an 8-11 mark in Mountain East Conference play.

Slippery Rock comes into the matchup riding a five-game winning streak and holds a 22-11 record on the season, including an 11-5 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Through 37 games, West Liberty is batting .280 as a team, while opponents are hitting .318. The Hilltoppers' pitching staff has a collective ERA of 7.39, compared to a 5.80 ERA from opposing staffs.

Will Balgo leads the Black and Gold at the plate with a .341 batting average, followed by Talbert (.315) and Adam Och (.307). William Glick tops the team with 33 RBIs, while Talbert is close behind with 28.

On the mound, Ethan Conley has the lowest ERA among starters at 5.82, and Tyler Skeen leads the team with 40 strikeouts.

Following Wednesday's contest, the Hilltoppers will return home to host Salem in a four-game weekend series at Kovalick Field, with doubleheaders scheduled for both Friday and Saturday.
