Coralville, IA – The West Liberty University women's wrestling team wrapped up its inaugural season with five wrestlers competing at the NCWWC National Championships. Representing the Hilltoppers at nationals were Jeulenea Khang (103 lbs), Grace O'Korn (145 lbs), Skyelar Smith (145 lbs), Janiya Brogan (160 lbs), and Jamie Shapton (207 lbs).
Jeulenea Khang (19-12) fell in her opening match by tech fall and in the consolation round by pin.
At 145 pounds Grace O'Korn (34-16) lost her first match by decision (10-1) and then dropped a close 7-6 decision in the consolation bracket.
Also at 145, Skyelar Smith (19-13) lost in the first round by tech fall and in the consolation round, she was pinned.
Janiya Brogan (18-14) at 160 pounds but was pinned in her opening match and again in the consolation bracket.
Jamie Shapton (22-11) at 207 pounds, lost a hard-fought 4-0 decision in the first round before being pinned in the consolation round.
In just their first season West Liberty's women's program made a statement by qualifying five wrestlers for nationals. With this experience under their belt, the Hilltoppers look ahead to building on their foundation and returning stronger next season.
