Wheeling, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team saw their season come to an end Wednesday night, falling to the University of Charleston 66-43 in the first round of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament at WesBanco Arena.
The Hilltoppers (9-20, 6-14 MEC) struggled out of the gate, managing just four points in the opening quarter while Charleston jumped out to a 12-4 lead. Despite a stronger second quarter, West Liberty trailed 29-17 at the half, hampered by cold shooting—just six field goals on 22 percent shooting.
Charleston (16-13, 10-10 MEC) extended their lead in the third quarter, using a 10-0 run to push their advantage to 21 points at 43-22. West Liberty responded with a 6-0 spurt to trim the deficit to 15 heading into the final quarter, but the Golden Eagles quickly regained control with an 8-3 burst that stretched the lead to 20, sealing the win.
Jenna Riccardo and Karli Anker led the Hilltoppers with 11 points each, while Paige Julian added 10.
