WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University baseball team (14-11, 6-2) is set to hit the road this weekend for a pair of Mountain East Conference doubleheaders.
On Saturday, the Hilltoppers will face Glenville State at 1 and 4 p.m. at the Sue Morris Sports Complex. They will then travel to Athens, W.Va., on Sunday to take on Concord, also at 1 and 4 p.m.
West Liberty is coming off a strong 3-1 weekend, splitting a doubleheader with Davis & Elkins on Saturday before sweeping West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. The Hilltoppers fell to Seton Hill on Tuesday in a 10-6 road contest in Greensburg, Pa. At 6-2 in Mountain East Conference play the Toppers are in second place in the north division. The Mountain Lions are 4-2 in MEC play and are in first in the south division. The Pioneers are 0-6 in conference action and are in last in the south.
At the plate, Will Balgo leads the team with a .366 batting average (11th MEC) , followed by Ryan Talbert at .337. Adam Och and Jacob Sherman are both hitting .316. William Glick paces the team in RBIs with 29 (3rd MEC), while Talbert has driven in 20 (12th MEC). Connor Huzicka leads the squad in extra-base hits with 14, including 11 doubles (2nd MEC), a triple, and two home runs. Balgo and Glick share the team lead with four home runs each.
On the mound, Chase Lautner turned in a dominant performance last Sunday, throwing a complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits. Kristopher Skeen also impressed, pitching six strong innings while giving up just one run on three hits and striking out six.
The Hilltoppers look to carry their momentum into this weekend's matchups as they continue MEC play.
