West Liberty Acrobatics and Tumbling Travels to West Virginia State

3/27/2025 11:15:00 AM

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University Acrobatics and Tumbling team is set to travel to West Virginia State for a Friday night showdown at the Walker Convocation Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The Hilltoppers enter the matchup following a strong performance in their recent tri-meet against Kutztown and Wheeling. West Liberty narrowly fell to Kutztown by less than three points but secured a dominant 40-point victory over Wheeling, improving their overall record to 3-5 and their Mountain East Conference (MEC) record to 2-2.

In Sunday's meet, the Hilltoppers recorded several season highs, including scores of 9.55 in the compulsory acro heat, 9.65 in the compulsory pyramid, and 9.60 in the synchronized pyramid. Senior Kayla Gandy made history, setting a new program record with a 9.725 in aerial tumbling. Gandy has been a standout performer this season, competing in all six events—the maximum allowed by the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA).

Abbey Horvath also delivered an impressive performance, particularly in the pyramid event. She played a key role in all three heats, serving as a mid in heats one and three and as a tosser and catcher in heat two. Her contributions helped the Hilltoppers achieve the following scores:

  • Heat 1: 9.4/10

  • Heat 2: 9.6/10

  • Heat 3: 9.8/10
