West Liberty With Strong Performance To Open Outdoor Season

Morgantown, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's and women's track and field team delivered strong performances in their outdoor season opener in the Pushkin Invitational, with several athletes achieving personal records (PRs) and securing top finishes.

Sprints and Hurdles

In the men's 100m, freshman Tristin Ohler led the way with a 9th-place finish (11.42), followed by Isaiah Zelaski (18th, 11.84) and Malachi Stewart (29th, 12.41). Ohler also impressed in the 200m, placing 6th with a PR of 22.81, while Jacob Taylor (14th, 24.24) and Zelaski (15th, 24.35) rounded out the team's efforts.

On the women's side, Kaylee Davis finished 17th in the 100m (13.68), while Marissa Scott (20th, 13.92) and Ashley Martin (21st, 13.98) were close behind. In the 200m, Davis placed 13th (28.99), and Martin set a PR (14th, 29.12).

In hurdles, the men saw strong performances in the 110m event, with George Donovic finishing 3rd (16.49) and Connor Casto placing 6th (17.60). On the women's side, Marissa Scott secured 4th place in the 100m hurdles (16.91), followed closely by freshman Sophie Abraham in 6th (16.92). In the 400m hurdles, Malachi Stewart recorded a PR (9th, 1:05.69), while Madelyn Cisar (6th, 1:15.42) and Kiara Kesner (7th, 1:18.77) competed in the women's race.

Middle and Long Distance

Francis Toohey stood out in the men's 1500m, securing 3rd place with a PR of 4:05.41. In the women's steeplechase, Ally Hicks set a PR (6th, 5:45.79). Lacey Dimit also achieved a PR in the 1500m (11th, 5:05.18), while Hicks returned to place 23rd (5:31.25).

The men's 5000m saw outstanding performances, with Robert Allen finishing 2nd with a PR (14:58.69), Jasper Brown placing 9th (PR, 15:30.92), and John Skinner finishing 15th (PR, 16:11.74). In the women's 5000m, Morgan Lesnansky placed 12th (19:07.10).

Field Events

In throws, Issac Tavo took 2nd in the men's discus (47.66m), while Pamela Kandrach (2nd, 41.59m) and Sierra Davis (3rd, 40.67m) led the women. Davis also set a PR in the hammer throw (8th, 41.67m), just ahead of Kandrach (9th, 41.55m). In shot put, Tavo secured 3rd (14.51m), while Kandrach placed 2nd for the women (11.69m).

West Liberty also excelled in jumps, with Hailey Harris winning the women's high jump (1.45m). Donovic placed 3rd in the men's event (1.88m), followed by Ethan Furbee (4th, 1.85m). In pole vault, Ava Cash placed 4th (2.75m), while Julius Hobbs (7th, 3.95m) and Max McCoy (10th, 3.65m, PR) led the men.


Next up, West Liberty will host the Tim Weaver Invitational at the West Family Athletic Complex next Friday and Saturday.
