West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's basketball team couldn't overcome Wheeling's dominant scoring runs, falling 74-55 on Senior Day at the ASRC.
The Cardinals set the tone early, opening the game on a 16-2 run to build a 14-point advantage. West Liberty battled back, trimming the deficit to just three at halftime, 35-32.
The Hilltoppers carried that momentum into the second half, tying the game at 37 on an Olivia Baker three-pointer with 7:52 left in the third quarter. However, Wheeling responded with a decisive 20-5 run to close the period, taking a commanding 57-42 lead into the fourth.
Baker hit another three-pointer at the 4:16 mark to bring West Liberty within eight at 61-53, but that was as close as the Hilltoppers would get. Jenna Riccardo led WLU with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Prior to tip-off, West Liberty honored its five seniors—Karli Anker, Bailey Beckstedt, Paige Julian, Jenna Riccardo, and Natalija Sekulovska—for their contributions to the program.
Next up, the Hilltoppers will turn their focus to the Mountain East Conference Tournament, where they will begin postseason play Wednesday at WesBanco Arena.
