Huntington, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference (MEC) Indoor Track & Field Championship concluded Monday at Marshall University, with West Liberty's Hunter Patterson proving himself the fastest man in the conference.
Patterson claimed the 60m dash title with an impressive time of 6.77 seconds, holding off the competition. He also delivered a strong performance in the 200m final, securing third place with a time of 21.46 seconds.
On the track, Francis Toohey had an outstanding run in the 800m, finishing third with a time of 1:53.80. In the 60m hurdles, George Donovic placed eighth with a time of 8.60 seconds.
West Liberty had a strong presence in the heptathlon, with three Hilltoppers finishing in the top seven. Jacob Huffman placed fifth, Malachi Stewart took sixth, and Josh Taylor finished seventh.
In the field events, four Hilltoppers excelled in the high jump. Ethan Furbee was the runner-up with a mark of 1.92m, George Donovic took third, Connor Gribble finished fifth, and Jamal Mounchivedi placed seventh.
Isaac Tavo had a solid showing in the weighted throw, finishing sixth with a mark of 15.79m. On Sunday, Tavo set a school record in the shot put, winning the event with a throw of 16.66m.
On the women's side, Ky'Ara Ross wrapped up an outstanding championship meet, placing fourth in both the 60m (7.74) and 200m (25.02). This followed her victory in the long jump on Sunday, where she set both a school and MEC record with a mark of 5.94m, ranking 14th in the nation. Ross also set new school records in the 60m (7.66) and 200m (24.88).
Other standout performances included Lacey Dimit finishing fourth in the 800m (2:19.46) and Marissa Scott taking sixth in the 60m hurdles (9.26). Brookelyn Reynolds, who set a school record in the 400m prelims on Sunday, finished seventh in the finals (59.49).
Sierra Lanham delivered a strong showing, finishing sixth in the 60m and seventh in the high jump. Hailey Harris took fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.50m.
In the weighted throw, Sierra Davis placed seventh (14.15m), while Katie Hill finished eighth (14.02m).
The meet concluded with the women's 4x400m relay team setting a new school record of 4:08.77. The team featured Sierra Lanham, Jillian Huffman, Lacey Dimit, and Brookelyn Reynolds.
In the team standings, the West Liberty men finished third overall, while the women placed fifth, capping off a strong showing at the MEC Championships.
