WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The No. 15-ranked West Liberty University men's wrestling team travels to Indianapolis this weekend for one of the nation's premier NCAA Division II wrestling events—the 46th Annual Midwest Classic, hosted by the University of Indianapolis. Competition runs Saturday and Sunday inside Nicoson Hall and the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center, two connected facilities that allow fans to move freely between mats throughout the tournament.
The Midwest Classic is widely regarded as one of the toughest regular-season tournaments in Division II, and this year's field reinforces that reputation. A total of 47 teams from 23 states will converge on Indianapolis, including 19 of the nation's top 25 programs in the latest NWCA poll.
Among the nationally ranked programs competing are:
No. 2 Lander, No. 3 Tiffin, No. 4 Wisconsin-Parkside, No. 5 Gannon, No. 7 Central Oklahoma, No. 8 Pitt-Johnstown, No. 10 Glenville State, No. 11 McKendree, No. 14 UMary, No. 15 West Liberty, No. 16 Adams State, No. 16 Upper Iowa, No. 18 Colorado Mesa, No. 19 Newberry, No. 20 King, No. 21 Ashland, No. 21 Grand Valley State, No. 21 Maryville, and No. 25 Chadron State.
The star power doesn't stop there.
Eight of the 10 No. 1-ranked individuals in the nation are scheduled to compete, giving the event one of the deepest fields of the year.
