MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The No. 19-ranked West Liberty University men's wrestling team continues its early-season dual slate on Friday with a special outdoor matchup at Millersville University. The dual, set for 3 p.m. at Cooper Park, will be held as part of a memorial event honoring former Millersville wrestler and fallen police officer Cody Becker '08.
Becker, a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier for the Marauders and a highly respected public servant, tragically lost his life in the line of duty on Sept. 17, 2025, at the age of 39. A standout on the mat and in his community, Becker compiled 84 career wins, captured the 2007 NCAA East Region title at 149 pounds, and twice represented Millersville at the Division I national championships.
Friday's event will begin with a special ceremony at 2:30 p.m. to honor Becker's life and legacy. The Pennsylvania State Ceremonial Unit will present the colors for the National Anthem, and a state police helicopter landing is planned as part of the tribute. Scheduled speakers include former teammate and Millersville Hall of Famer Jarrett Hostetter '10, former head coach Neil Barnes, and retired chief of police Mark Bentzel.
Following the memorial, the Hilltoppers and Marauders will take the mat for Millersville's annual outdoor dual. West Liberty enters the matchup coming off a hard-fought 18–17 setback against No. 3 Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday night — a performance that showcased the Hilltoppers' depth, toughness, and competitive edge against one of the nation's elite programs.
