WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University athletic department has announced the promotion of Michael Trax as the new head coach for the men's and women's track and field programs.

Trax, a former Hilltopper assistant coach overseeing the jumps group, brings strong familiarity with the program and a record of athlete development to his new leadership role.

A native of Canonsburg, Pa., Trax competed at Waynesburg University from 2016–21, where he established himself as one of the most accomplished jumpers in school history. He still holds program records in the long jump (6.55m / 21'6") and triple jump (13.20m / 43'3.75") and ranks second all-time in the high jump (1.80m / 5'10.75").

"We're thrilled to welcome Michael Trax as the new head coach of our men's and women's track & field programs," West Liberty Athletic Director Brad Forshey said. "Michael brings outstanding experience, a strong vision for athlete development, and a passion for building a championship culture both on and off the track. His energy and leadership will have an immediate and lasting impact on our student-athletes and the continued success of Hilltopper Athletics."

Trax said he is honored for the opportunity to continue leading within a program he believes in.

"I'm very grateful and excited to be named the head track and field coach and assistant cross country coach," Trax said. "I want to thank Athletic Director Brad Forshey and the committee for this opportunity. I look forward to continuing to work with this very talented group of athletes and building on the success of this program."
