WHEELING, W.Va. — The West Liberty University women's volleyball team travels to Wheeling Friday night for their regular-season finale with an opportunity to secure a share of first place in the Mountain East Conference North Division. The match is set for 7 p.m. at Wheeling's home court.
The Hilltoppers (17-12, 9-4 MEC) have been on a steady run, winning four of their last five matches, including a 3-1 victory over Frostburg State in their most recent outing. A win against the Cardinals would put West Liberty in a potential tie for first in the North, with the division champion ultimately determined by tiebreakers.
In their first meeting this season on Oct. 14 at the ASRC the Hilltoppers won in straight sets. The victory marked just the third win over Wheeling in the last 57 meetings — and the first since March 5, 2021.
West Liberty's balanced attack has been a key factor this season. The team averages 12.5 kills and 16.2 digs per set, with Adrienne Staib leading the Hilltoppers with 87 blocks. Setter Dakoda Keni has recorded 812 assists, while Kyia White and Grace Hill provide consistent scoring from the outside.
Wheeling (16-12, 10-3 MEC) has also enjoyed a strong season, including a four-match winning streak heading into Friday. The Cardinals boast 13.1 kills per set and 17.4 digs per set, with Camryn Matus leading the team offensively with 280 kills and 21 service aces. Katie Wilking anchors the net with 73 blocks, giving Wheeling a formidable presence up front.
With both teams eyeing the top of the division, the matchup at the McDonough Center promises high stakes, intense rallies, and a battle for positioning heading into the MEC tournament.
