Hilltoppers Take Down Frostburg State, 3–1, as Cudnik Reaches Career Milestone

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University volleyball team earned a 3–1 victory over Frostburg State on Tuesday night inside the ASRC, highlighted by a milestone performance from outside hitter Ashley Cudnik, who surpassed 750 career kills in the win.

The Hilltoppers (17-12, 9-4) secured the match with set scores of 25-14, 20-25, 25-17, and 25-21, recording 60 kills and eight service aces while holding the Bobcats to a .189 hitting percentage.

West Liberty came out strong in the opening set, quickly responding to Frostburg's early points with a kill from Liv McAtee, assisted by Dakoda Keni. The Hilltoppers found their rhythm behind kills from Kyia White and Cudnik, as Keni continued to pace the offense with sharp distribution. A service ace from Keni extended the lead to 13-7, and West Liberty closed the set with a flurry of kills from Grace Hill, taking the opener 25-14.

Frostburg bounced back in the second set, capitalizing on a few West Liberty miscues to build a 12-6 advantage. The Hilltoppers rallied behind a kill from McAtee and a service ace from White to cut the deficit to one, then tied the frame at 17-17 on Amira DuPree's ace. However, the Bobcats closed on a late run to even the match with a 25-20 win.

The Hilltoppers regrouped in the third set, gaining momentum early with a kill from Cudnik that sparked a run of strong offensive play. DuPree added another ace to stretch the lead, and Cudnik continued to dominate at the net, finishing the set with multiple kills, including the clincher that sealed a 25-17 victory.

In the fourth, West Liberty battled through a tight start before a mid-set surge sparked by White's service ace and McAtee's kill pushed the Hilltoppers ahead. Despite a Frostburg rally to tie the score at 16-16, West Liberty finished strong behind key points from Hill and Cudnik, closing out the match 25-21 to secure the 3–1 win.

Cudnik led West Liberty with 18 kills and 17 digs, surpassing 750 career kills in the process. Keni guided the offense with 45 assists and added 12 digs, while White totaled 15 kills on a .355 hitting percentage and 11 digs. McAtee contributed 11 kills and led the team with four block assists.

West Liberty will close out the regular season on Friday, with a road match at Wheeling beginning at 7 p.m.
