West Liberty, W.Va. — Junior running back Hunter Patterson delivered a dominant all-around performance Saturday to help lift the Hilltoppers to a thrilling 47-41 win over West Virginia State at West Family Stadium.
Patterson piled up 271 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns, powering West Liberty's offense in the dramatic comeback victory. He rushed for 141 yards and two scores on 21 carries, while also catching six passes for 130 yards and a touchdown, including an explosive 80-yard catch-and-run that gave the Hilltoppers their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter.
The senior's effort helped spark a 26-point fourth quarter as the Hilltoppers erased a late deficit to secure their first Mountain East Conference win of the season.
Through six games this season, Patterson has totaled 324 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while adding 16 receptions for 180 yards and another score.
