WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University volleyball team extended its winning streak to three straight matches — all in straight sets — with a dominant 25-12, 25-16, 29-27 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon inside the ASRC.
The Hilltoppers (12-10, 5-2 MEC) delivered one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season, hitting .389 as a team with 39 kills, while holding the visiting Bobcats to a .090 hitting percentage and recording nine total blocks.
West Liberty came out firing in the opening set, taking control early with kills from Ashley Cudnik and Amira DuPree, both set up by Dakoda Keni. The Hilltoppers capitalized on several Bobcat errors and built momentum behind strong net play from Liv McAtee and Adrienne Staib. A late service ace from Bella Dart sealed a commanding 25-12 win.
The second set followed a similar script as West Liberty used aggressive serving and strong blocking to pull away. Aces from Staib and Keni, combined with key defensive stops from DuPree and Grace Hill, helped push the Hilltoppers to a 17-12 advantage. A kill by DuPree closed out the set, 25-16, giving WLU a two-set cushion.
The third set proved to be the tightest of the afternoon, featuring multiple ties and momentum swings. The Hilltoppers erased a mid-set deficit with back-to-back blocks from McAtee and Staib, then battled through a late 23-23 tie. Clutch kills by Cudnik and McAtee helped West Liberty close out the set, 29-27, and complete the sweep.
DuPree led the Hilltoppers with 11 kills on 21 swings while adding five block assists. Hill was nearly flawless, hitting .800 with eight kills and five total blocks. Keni paced the offense with 34 assists and added a service ace, while Cudnik chipped in eight kills and eight digs.
West Liberty now hits the road for a three-match road swing, beginning Friday at Glenville State before traveling to Concord on Saturday.
