CLINTON, Pa. — The West Liberty University men's cross country team placed 10th overall among 19 teams at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday morning at Youthtowne. Senior Francis Toohey led the Hilltoppers with a 23rd-place finish, clocking a time of 25:42.8 over the 8-kilometer course.
Fellow senior Jasper Brown followed close behind in 27th place (25:47.8), while Robert Allen continued his steady season with a 39th-place finish (26:04.9). Rounding out the Hilltoppers' scoring five were Zachary Workman in 74th (26:52.1) and freshman Finlay Lorimer, who crossed in 83rd (27:01.6).
West Liberty posted a team total of 221 points, finishing ahead of several regional programs, including Edinboro, Indiana (Pa.), and Frostburg State.
The race featured a strong field of Division II and III teams, with Ashland University winning the team title (20 points) and Carnegie Mellon placing second (95).
The Hilltoppers will return to action on October 25 at the Mountain East Conference Championship at Oglebay.
