WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – On Tuesday afternoon the College Sports Communicator's (CSC) announced the 2024 Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team selections, consisting of the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling. West Liberty University was represented by a pair of wrestlers,
Ty McGeary and
Alec Cook, as CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the mat and in the classrooms.
McGeary earns his second career CSC Academic All-District® selection as he posted a 3.69 GPA while pursuing a degree in cyber security. The senior from McDonald, Pennsylvania, clinched his second consecutive national championship back in March as he completed a perfect 33-0 record with a 9-1 major decision victory over No. 3 Matt Weinberg of Kutztown in the 184 pound title bout. He was one of only three DII national champions to complete an undefeated season during the 2023-24 year en route to earning MEC Wrestler of the Year, NCAA Division II Super Region III Wrestler of the Year, and NCAA Division II Wrestler of the Year. He finished second in the NWCA's DII Most Dominant Standings with 24 bonus point victories and eighth in NWCA's DIII Falls Leaders with ten pins. With additional academic honors following the season he became a 4-time NWCA Scholar All-American and a 2-time MEC Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.
Cook earns his first career CSC Academic All-District® selection as he posted a 3.54 GPA while pursuing a degree in early childhood education. The senior from Wierton, West Virginia, found his way back to the NCAA Division II National Championships for the second time in his career as he qualified for the 165 pound tournament with a second place finish at the MEC Championships and a third place finish at the NCAA Division II Super Region III Tournament. Cook ended the year with a 21-12 record after a 1-2 mark at nationals, defeating Kyle Botelho of San Francisco State in an 8-2 decision. During the 2023-24 season he tallied nine bonus point wins with five victories by way of a tech fall. Additional academic honors following the year for Cook included becoming a 2-time NWCA Scholar All-American and Academic All-MEC selection.
