Hilltoppers Return Home to Face Mountain Lions and Pioneers

West Liberty, W.Va. – After uncertainty of where this weekend's games would be played due to flooding throughout the entire Ohio Valley, the West Liberty University softball team announced last night that they would be facing off against Concord and Glenville State at the friendly confines of the Hilltopper Softball Complex on Sunday, April 7, and Monday, April 8. The Hilltoppers are slated for first pitch times of 2 and 4 p.m. on both days against the Mountain Lions and the Pioneers.

  • First Pitch: 2 and 4 p.m. on Sunday and Monday
WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
  • West Liberty enters the doubleheaders with a 10-20 (5-7 MEC) record on the season after being swept by Frostburg State and Fairmont State. They fell to the Bobcats by scores of 6-2 and 11-10, followed by 1-0 (8 Inn.) and 5-4 defeats to Fairmont State.
  • The Hilltoppers are currently in fourth place in the MEC North Division standings.
  • As a team, WLU is hitting .278 with 215 hits, 34 doubles, three triples, 12 homeruns, 96 RBI, and 115 runs scored through 30 games played this season.
  • Sydney Johnson leads the team with a .340 batting average while posting an on-base percentage of .367, a slugging percentage of .426, and an on-base plus slugging percentage of .793. She has tallied 32 hits, six doubles, one triple, eight RBI, and has scored 14 runs.
  • Kayla Mancuso is second on the team with a batting average of .329, while also recording an on-base percentage of .430, a slugging percentage of .397, and an on-base plus slugging percentage of .827. She has tallied 24 hits, two doubles, one homerun, 11 RBI, and 18 runs scored. Mancuso has notched a hit in 17 of the last 21 contests she has appeared in.
  • Sara Simon (.325), Jaden Conrad (.324) and Carlee Leidy (.302) are the three remaining players who are hitting better than .300 on the season.
  • Mallory Rosnick leads the team with three homeruns on the year.
  • The Hilltoppers' pitching staff has recorded an ERA of 6.09, allowing 247 hits and 82 walks, while throwing 95 strikeouts. Opponents hold a .306 batting average against WLU pitchers.
  • Kadence Pettit, the 2023 MaxPreps West Virginia Player of the Year has made 13 starts in 16 appearances to open her freshman campaign, pitching a team-high 70.2 innings and six complete games thus far. She holds a team-low ERA of 4.58 to go along with a 1.56 WHIP, an opponent's batting average of .274, and 52 strikeouts. With a record of 6-8 on the season she has struck out six or more batters in four games.
  • Madison Angus holds an ERA of 5.82 while recording a WHIP of 1.65 and has held opponents to a .292 batting average. She has thrown 16 strikeouts on the year.
  • Brooke Perri is the top relief pitcher with a 7.20 ERA in 15.0 innings pitched in nine appearances. She has notched a WHIP of 2.53 and an opponent's batting average of .377 while striking out four batters.
  • Sara Pelegreen is in her first season as the head coach at West Liberty with a record of 10-20 with the Hilltoppers. Overall, she is in her fifth season as a collegiate head softball coach and has compiled a career record of 79-150 which includes four prior seasons at Wheeling.
CONCORD STORYLINES
  • Concord enters Sunday's doubleheader with a 19-15 (7-7 MEC) record on the season following a split with both West Virginia State and No. 15 Charleston on the road last weekend. They split games against the Yellow Jackets with a 3-2 (8 Inn.) loss before winning 8-3, and then against the Golden Eagles they lost 13-2 before winning 6-5.
  • The Mountain Lions are currently tied for second place in the MEC South Division standings with West Virginia State.
  • As a team, CU is hitting .298 with 275 hits, 53 doubles, seven triples, 12 homeruns, 158 RBI, and 188 runs scored through 34 games played this season.
  • Kylee Stacy leads the team with a .440 batting average while also adding a .479 on-base percentage, a .523 slugging percentage, and a 1.002 on-base plus slugging percentage. She has tallied 48 hits, three doubles, three triples, seven RBI, and 30 runs scored. She has recorded a hit in 13 consecutive games played.
  • Courtney Raines adds a .358 batting average while also recording a .426 on-base percentage, a .528 slugging percentage, and a .954 on-base plus slugging percentage. She has notched 38 hits, 12 doubles, two homeruns, 30 RBI, and 20 runs scored. She has collected a hit in 12 of her last 15 games played.
  • Lacie Lewis (.349) and Madison Hollis (.327) round out the four players hitting above .300 on the year for Concord.
  • The Mountain Lions' pitching staff has recorded an ERA of 4.06, allowing 297 hits and 71 walks, while throwing 118 strikeouts. Opponents have held a .320 batting average against CU pitchers.
  • Nancy-Jo Roberts leads the team with a 9-5 record in 14 and starts and 16 appearances as she holds a 3.46 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and has held opponents to a .297 batting average in 81.0 innings of work in the circle. She has recorded 38 strikeouts while also adding nine complete games with a pair of shutout performances.
  • Another pitcher to watch will be Madison Hollis, who holds a 7-8 record in eight starts and 16 appearances as she holds a 4.13 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and has held opponents to a .327 batting average. She has thrown 32 strikeouts in 76.1 innings of work in the circle with two complete games.
  • Alyssa Morris is in her third season as the head coach at Concord with a record of 56-83 during her time with the Mountain Lions. Overall, she is in her fifth season as a collegiate head coach with a career record of 91-112 following two seasons at Union (Ky.).

  • Since the 2011 season West Liberty holds a 14-12 advantage in the all-time series.
  • In their most recent match-up on April 8, 2023, in Athens, West Virginia, the Hilltoppers and Mountain Lions split the doubleheader as CU won the opener 13-5 before WLU bounced back and won game two 1-0.
GLENVILLE STATE STORYLINES
  • Glenville State enters this weekend's doubleheader with a record of 10-15 (4-10 MEC) following being swept by No. 15 Charleston and a split with West Virginia State. They lost both games by scores of 7-0 and 11-3 (6 Inn.) to the Golden Eagles while the dropped the first game by a score of 1-0 to the Yellow Jackets before winning 5-2.
  • The Pioneers are currently in fifth place in the MEC South Division standings.
  • As a team, GSU is hitting .260 with 173 hits, 27 doubles, three triples, 21 homeruns, 92 RBI, and 100 runs scored through 25 games played this season.
  • Kylee Goodman is the lone player to hit above .300 this season as she is batting .410 with a .465 on-base percentage, a .564 slugging percentage, and a 1.029 on-base plus slugging percentage. She has tallied 32 hits, four doubles, one triple, two homeruns, ten RBI, and 12 runs scored. She has recorded a hit in six of her last seven games played.
  • The Pioneers' pitching staff has recorded an ERA of 3.03, allowing 170 hits and 55 walks, while throwing 138 strikeouts. Opponents have held a .258 batting average against GSU pitchers.
  • With a 5-6 record in ten starts and 12 appearances, Holly Brehm leads the pitchers as she holds a 1.98 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and has held opponents to a .193 batting average. She has thrown 95 strikeouts in 67.1 innings pitched, notching a total of seven complete games and one shutout.
  • Another pitcher to watch will be Meghan Stump, who is 0-4 on the year, however she holds a 2.36 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and has held opponents to a .275 batting average. She has thrown 18 strikeouts in 32.2 innings pitched and has recorded a pair of complete games.
  • Sara Scoone is in her fourth season as the head coach at Glenville State with a career record of 61-101 during her time with the Pioneers.

  • Since the 2011 season, West Liberty and Glenville State are even at 12-12 in the all-time series.
