Hilltoppers Face Road Match-Ups at Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University softball team is set to return to MEC play this weekend as they travel to face a pair of south division opponents, matching up with Davis & Elkins on Saturday evening while wrapping up the weekend with a visit to West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. The Hilltoppers and Senators saw their doubleheader shifted to the Elkins High School Softball Field, located at Elkins Middle School in Elkins, West Virginia, as they are slated for 4 and 6 p.m. first pitch times. WLU is then slated for a 1 and 3 p.m. first pitch time against the Bobcats at Culpepper Field in Buckhannon, West Virginia.

WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
  • West Liberty enters the weekend with a 12-24 (6-10 MEC) record on the season after splitting a non-conference doubleheader at home against Point Park on Wednesday afternoon, falling by a score of 5-4 (9 Innings) before bouncing back to end the day with a 3-1 win.
  • The Hilltoppers are currently in fourth place in the MEC North Division standings.

  • Kayla Mancuso is second on the team in hitting percentage, batting .326, with an on-base percentage of .431, a slugging percentage of .380, and an on-base plus slugging percentage of .811. She has tallied 30 hits, two doubles, one homerun, 11 RBI, and 22 runs scored. Mancuso has notched a hit in 19 of the last 23 contests she has appeared in.   • Sara Simon adds a .320 batting average while posting an on-base percentage of .359, a slugging percentage of .433, and an on-base plus slugging percentage of .792.   • Ashlyn Tapman is the top relief pitcher for WLU, totaling 35.2 innings pitched in four games started and 13 appearances in 2024 for a record of 1-4. She has recorded an ERA of 6.06, a WHIP of 1.65, and an opponent's batting average of .290. She has thrown a total of 23 strikeouts this season, notching a season-high of six in the last outing against Point Park.

  • Davis & Elkins enters this weekend's games with a 19-18 (6-10 MEC) record on the season after being swept in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Walsh, falling by scores of 4-3 and 2-1.
  • The Senators are currently in fifth place in the MEC South Division standings.
  • As a team, D&E is hitting .283 with 292 hits, 59 doubles, four triples, 29 homeruns, 183 RBI, and 204 runs scored through 37 games played this season.
  • Lilly Saucedo leads the team with a .387 batting average while adding a .432 on-base percentage, a .496 slugging percentage, and a .928 on-base plus slugging percentage. She has tallied 46 hits, ten doubles, one homerun, 25 RBI, and 21 runs scored this season. She has recorded a hit in 11 consecutive games played.   • Another player to watch at the plate is Ashlyn Zapach who is hitting .350 while adding a .424 on-base percentage, a .725 slugging percentage, and a 1.149 on-base plus slugging percentage.
