Hilltoppers Set to Compete at the Bison Outdoor Classic and the Cherry Blossom Invitational

West Liberty, W.Va. – The West Liberty University men's and women's track and field teams are set to send athletes to the states of Pennsylvania and Ohio this weekend as they will compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University and the Cherry Blossom Invitational hosted by Ohio University. The distance athletes will compete at Bucknell on Saturday and Sunday, with those meets starting at 8 and 10:30 a.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, while the remainder of the teams will travel to Athens, Ohio, where the field events start at 10 a.m. with running events beginning at 11 a.m. at Goldsberry Track.
 
MEET DETAILS
  • Location (Bison Outdoor Classic): Lewisburg, Pennsylvania (Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium)
  • Start Time (Bison Outdoor Classic): The meet begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.
  • Location (Cherry Blossom Invitational): Athens, Ohio (Goldsberry Track)
  • Start Time (Cherry Blossom Invitational): The meet begins at 10 a.m. with the field events while the running events start at 11 a.m. on the track.
  • Competitors: Distance runners Phillip White, Robert Allen, Francis Toohey, and Tavian Richardson will be competing at the Bison Outdoor Classic while the remainder of the Hilltopper athletes will compete at the Cherry Blossom Invitational.
WEST LIBERTY MEN'S TRACK & FIELD STORYLINES
  • With a fourth place finish at the Stan Romanoski Open, Lorenzo Ferrera ranks eighth on the MEC Performance List with a time of 10.95.
  • In the 800m run, Tavian Richardson notched a second place finish and time of 1:56.97 at the Tim Weaver Invitational to rank ninth in the conference.
  • Philip White holds the third best time in the conference in the 10,000m run and is ninth in the 1,500m run as he recorded career-best times of 31:42.25 and 3:58.57 at the Charlotte 49er Classic.
  • Robert Allen ranks seventh in the league in the 10,000m run as he posted a career-best time of 32:28.48 at the Charlotte 49er Classic.
  • The Hilltoppers have two athletes within the top-10 of the 110m hurdles, as Mikhi Anderson holds down the top time in the conference with a winning time of 14.52 at the Tim Weaver Invitational, while Dorde Donovic is sixth with a time of 15.27 also at the Tim Weaver Invitational.
  • Donovic also ranks seventh in the conference in the 400m hurdles as he posted a career-best time of 59.18 for a second place finish in WLU's home meet two weeks ago.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Arthur Williams, Francis Toohey, Ferrera, and Richardson rank third in the conference currently as they recorded a season-best time of 3:27.50 at the West Family Athletic Complex two weeks ago.
  • The Hilltoppers hold four of the top-5 marks in the MEC in the high jump, led by Donovic who cleared a mark of 1.90 (6' 2.75") at the Tim Weaver Invitational. Tied for second in the league are Ethan Furbee and Anderson who both hold a mark of 1.85m (6' 0.75") with those jumps occurring at WLU's home meet and the UC Golden Eagle Invitational respectively. Rounding out the group of WLU high jumpers and fourth place in the conference is Daminn Cunningham who cleared 1.80m (5' 10.75") in Charleston last weekend.
  • Julius Hobbs notched a top-10 finish in the pole vault at the Stan Romanoski Open, recording a mark of 3.95m (12' 11.5") for eighth place, which also ranks third on the MEC Performance List. Also, inside the top-10 of the league's pole vaulters are Jonathan Stout and Malachi Stewart who currently rank seventh and ninth with marks of 2.32m (7' 7.25") and 1.92m (6' 3.5") respectively in the decathlon of WLU's home meet.
  • A trio of Hilltoppers rank within the top-10 of the conference leaders in the long jump, led by Anderson and Brijaun Baylor who are third and sixth in the league with marks of 6.66m (21' 10.25") and 6.57m (21' 6.75") respectively at the Tim Weaver Invitational. Rounding out the top-10 was Furbee who completed a jump of 6.33m (20' 9.25") in the Hilltoppers home meet.
  • Quinn Ashbrooke and Baylor rank seventh and eighth in the conference in the triple jumps with marks of 13.03m (42' 9") and 12.80m (42' 0") at the West Family Athletic Complex two weeks ago.
  • Joshua Fancher's winning shot put mark of 14.91m (48' 11") at the Bethany Invitational continues to rank third in the conference.
  • Fancher also holds a top-5 spot on the league's performance list in the discus with a second place mark of 44.33m (145' 5") at WVU that puts him fifth in the conference.
  • With a career-best mark and third place throw of 48.29m (158' 5"), John Brown holds down the league's top mark in the hammer throw. Joining him inside the top-10 is Fancher who is sixth with a career-best throw of 45.65m (149' 9") for a second place finish at the Tim Weaver Invitational, and Mason Fraley who recorded a career-best throw of 41.17m (135' 1") at WLU two weeks ago as he earned a fourth place finish which now ranks tenth in the league.
  • With career-best throws at the Tim Weaver Invitational, Ferrera and Fraley rank ninth and tenth in the MEC in the javelin with marks of 36.72m (120' 6") and 36.09m (118' 5") respectively.
  • Huffman, Stout, and Stewart rank second, third, and fourth respectively in the conference in the decathlon as they posted career-best scores of 3,572, 3,422, and 2,914 in WLU's home meet two weeks ago.
WEST LIBERTY WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD STORYLINES
  • With a career-best time of 12.38 to win the 100m dash at the UC Golden Eagle Invitational, Ky'Ara Ross ranks fourth in the MEC, while Sierra Lanham is ninth in the league with a time of 12.47 at the Tim Weaver Invitational.
  • Ross ranks sixth in conference in the 200m dash after posting a career-best and winning time of 25.76 at Charleston last weekend while Lanham finished in second place with a time of 25.94 that ranks ninth in the MEC.
  • With a winning time of 2:25.41 in the 800m run at the Tim Weaver Invitational, Lacey Dimit ranks tenth in the conference in the event.
  • Morgan Lesnansky ranks within the top-10 of the league performance list in both the 5,000m run and the 10,000m run. In the 5,000m run she ranks fifth in the conference after a third place finish at the UC Golden Eagle Invitational as she crossed the line with a career-best time of 18:53.65. She won the 10,000m run at the Bethany Invitational as she turned in a career-best time of 41:12.08 that ranks sixth in the MEC.
  • Marissa Scott rounds out the MEC Performance List in the 100m hurdles with a fourth place finish and career-best time of 15.95 at the UC Golden Eagle Invitational.
  • Hope Gestl ranks top-10 of the conference in the 400m hurdles as she ran to a career-best time of 1:12.79 to finish fourth at the Tim Weaver Invitational.
  • Ally Hicks recorded a career-best time of 12:38.35 to win the 3,000m steeplechase at the Tim Weaver Invitational, ranking sixth in the MEC thus far this season. Emma Flynn also ranks ninth in the league with a career-best time of 13:30.17 at the West Family Athletic Complex two weeks ago.
  • The 4x100 relay team of Ross, Abbe Stackpole, Brookelyn Reynolds, and Lanham ran to a second place finish and ranks fourth in the conference with a season-best time of 48.96 occurring at the UC Golden Eagle Invitational.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Gestl, Ross, Dimit, and Reynolds ran to a second place finish and season-best time of 4:31.56 at the Tim Weaver Invitational, a time which now ranks sixth in the MEC.
  • With a high jump mark of 1.47m (4' 9.75") in the heptathlon at the Tim Weaver Invitational, Zayne Brakeall recorded the fourth best jump in the conference this season.
  • Scott ranks tenth in the MEC in the pole vault after earning a fourth place finish in the event at the Tim Weaver Invitational with a mark of 2.31m (7' 7").
  • After a first and third place finish respectively at WLU's home meet two weeks ago, Ross and Lanham rank second and third in the MEC with long jump marks of 5.51m (18' 1") and 5.40m (17' 8.75").
  • Martin's sixth place shot put mark of 11.48m (37' 8") at the Stan Romanoski Open now ranks fifth on the MEC Performance List, while Sierra Davis recorded a career-best mark of 10.94m (35' 10.75") for fourth place at the UC Golden Eagle Invitational and ninth place in the league.
  • WLU holds the top-3 marks in the conference in the discus, led by Davis who won the event at the Bethany Invitational with a career-best throw of 42.69m (140' 1"). She is joined by Adriana Fazzini who is second in the MEC with a career-best throw of 41.08m (134' 9") for a second place finish at the UC Golden Eagle Invitational, and Martin is third with a throw of 40.11m (131' 7") at the Bethany Invitational.
  • West Liberty also has three athletes who rank within the top-10 of the hammer throw in the MEC, led by Davis who is seventh after notching a career-best mark of 39.95m (131' 1") at the Stan Romanoski Open. She is joined by Fazzini who recorded a career-best throw of 39.07m (128' 2") for fifth place at the UC Golden Eagle Invitational, and Norris who is eighth after a career-best mark of 38.61m (126' 8") at the Tim Weaver Invitational.
  • Martin ranks fifth in the conference with a javelin throw of 29.69m (97' 5") at the Tim Weaver Invitational.
  • Brakeall ranks second in the MEC in the heptathlon after breaking the school record in the event with a total of 3,741 points for a sixth place finish at the Tim Weaver Invitational.
