2024 Acrobatics & Tumbling Selections

Five Hilltoppers Earn All-MEC Acrobatics & Tumbling Honors

Bridgeport, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference announced the 2024 selections of the acrobatics & tumbling all-conference teams on Thursday afternoon, as a total of five student-athletes from West Liberty University gained recognition. Highlighting the accolades for the Hilltoppers were Kayla Gandy and Gillian Hartz who earned All-MEC First Team for the second consecutive year, while other repeat all-conference selections include Abbey Horvath and Abbey Swinderman who earned All-MEC Second Team honors. Earning her first career all-conference selection for WLU was Avery Ray who also secured a spot on the All-MEC Second Team.

Gandy, a junior top/tumbler from Washington, Pennsylvania, earned her second career All-MEC selection, earning All-MEC First Team honors for the second consecutive year after gaining recognition previously in 2023. She played a key role in seven of the Hilltoppers school-records broken during the 2024 season, competing in Compulsory Acro vs. East Stroudsburg (9.650), Compulsory Pyramid at No. 7 Limestone (9.950), Seven-Element Acro at No. 14 Converse (9.900), Synchronized Toss vs. East Stroudsburg (9.050), Quad Tumbling vs. East Stroudsburg (8.600), Aerial Tumbling vs. East Stroudsburg (9.625), and Team Event at No. 7 Limestone (94.340). Gandy is set to compete in four heats of the MEC Event Finals, the Seven-Element Acro, Synchronized Pyramid, Quad Tumbling, and Aerial Tumbling.

Hartz, a junior top/base/tumbler from Duquesne, Pennsylvania, earned her second career All-MEC selection, earning All-MEC First Team honors for the second consecutive year after gaining recognition previously in 2023. She played a key role in four of the Hilltoppers school-records broken during the 2024 season, competing in Compulsory Acro vs. East Stroudsburg (9.650), Six-Element Acro vs. East Stroudsburg (9.300), Quad Tumbling vs. East Stroudsburg (8.600), and Team Event at No. 7 Limestone (94.340). Hartz is set to compete in two heats of the MEC Event Finals, the Quad Tumbling and Six-Element Tumbling.

Horvath, a junior base from Wellsburg, West Virginia, earned her third career All-MEC selection, earning All-MEC Second Team honors. She previously earned All-MEC Second Team honors in 2023 and was recognized as All-MEC First Team and Freshman of the Year in 2022. She played a key role in five of the Hilltoppers school-records broken during the 2024 season, competing in Compulsory Acro vs. East Stroudsburg (9.650), Compulsory Pyramid at No. 7 Limestone (9.950), Seven-Element Acro at No. 14 Converse (9.900), Synchronized Toss vs. East Stroudsburg (9.050), and Team Event at No. 7 Limestone (94.340). Ray, a junior top/tumbler from Katy, Texas, earned her first career All-MEC selection, earning All-MEC Second Team honors. She played a key role in six of the Hilltoppers school-records broken during the 2024 season, competing in Compulsory Acro vs. East Stroudsburg (9.650), Compulsory Pyramid at No. 7 Limestone (9.950), Six-Element Acro vs. East Stroudsburg (9.300), Synchronized Toss vs. East Stroudsburg (9.050), Quad Tumbling vs. East Stroudsburg (8.600), and Team Event at No. 7 Limestone (94.340). Ray is set to compete in two heats of the MEC Event Finals, the Synchronized Pyramid and Quad Tumbling.

Swinderman, a redshirt-senior base from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, earned her fourth career All-MEC selection, earning All-MEC Second Team honors. She previously earned All-MEC First Team honors in 2023 (West Liberty) and 2022 (Glenville State), as well as an All-MEC Second Team accolade in 2021 (Glenville State). She played a key role in five of the Hilltoppers school-records broken during the 2024 season, competing in Compulsory Acro vs. East Stroudsburg (9.650), Compulsory Pyramid at No. 7 Limestone (9.950), Seven-Element Acro at No. 14 Converse (9.900), Synchronized Toss vs. East Stroudsburg (9.050), and Team Event at No. 7 Limestone (94.340). Swinderman is set to compete in two heats of the MEC Event Finals, the Seven-Element Acro and Synchronized Pyramid.
