Hilltoppers Secure Ten Event Wins on Day Two of Tim Weaver Invitational

West Liberty, W.Va. – On a cool and rainy Saturday at the West Family Athletic Complex, the West Liberty University men's and women's track & field teams closed out the 3rd Annual Tim Weaver Invitational as they posted a total of ten event wins on day two. Highlighting the event wins were Mikhi Anderson (110m hurdles), Reese Burnside (pole vault (unattached)), Ky'Ara Ross (100m & 200m dash, long jump), Lacey Dimit (800m run), Ally Hicks (3,000m steeplechase), Sierra Davis (discus), men's 4x400m relay, and the women's 4x100m relay. Additionally, the Black & Gold posted a total of 11 runner-up finishes in today's events. Another highlight on the final day of competition was Zayne Brakeall notching a new school-record in the heptathlon with a 2-day total of 3,741 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – WLU MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • West Liberty sent four athletes to the finals of the 100m dash as Lorenzo Ferrera w+as second with a prelims time of 11.05, Mikhi Anderson was fourth with a time of 11.25, Nathan Baker was sixth with a career-best time of 11.31, and Arthur Williams was seventh with a career-best time of 11.35. In the finals Ferrera was second with a time of 11.19, Anderson was fourth with a time of 11.52, Baker was fifth with a time of 11.58, and Williams was eighth with a time of 12.25.
  • Anderson led the way in the 110m hurdles, posting the fastest prelim (14.52) and finals (14.85) times in the meet. Dorde Donovic held steady in third place from the prelims with a career-best time of 15.27 to the finals with a time of 15.78.
  • Ferrera and Baker notched a pair of top-5 finishes for the Hilltoppers in the 200m dash, recording third and fourth place finishes respectively with times of 22.91 and 23.13.
  • Williams recorded a second place finish in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 51.92.
  • Donovic turned in a second place finish in the 400m hurdles as he posted a time of 59.18.
  • In the 800m run, Tavian Richardson and Francis Toohey earned second and third place finishes respectively with times of 1:56.97 and 1:57.96. Jasper Brown was just outside of the top-10 in 11th place with a time of 2:09.68.
  • Brown crossed the line in a career-best time of 4:15.04 in the 1,500m run for second place in the event.
  • Robert Allen and Brody Cermak recorded seventh and eighth place finishes in the 5,000m run as they posted times of 15:47.74 and 16:37.65 respectively.
  • Patrick Childers ran to a second place finish in the 10,000m run as he recorded a time of 35:51.55.
  • The Hilltoppers closed the day on the track with a win in the 4x400m relay as Joshua Fancher, Arthur Williams, Aidan Horan, and Francis Toohey ran to a time of 3:27.50.
  • Fancher notched a second place finish in the discus as he recorded a mark of 41.42m (135-10).
  • Donovic earned a second place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m (6-02.75) while Ethan Furbee tied for third with a jump of 1.85m (6-00.75).
  • Ferrera was the highest placing Hilltopper in the javelin with a throw of 36.72m (120-05) for 16th place.
  • In the long jump West Liberty saw a trio of athletes reach the finals as Anderson was third with a mark of 6.66m (21-10.25), Brijaun Baylor was sixth with a mark of 6.57m (21-06.75), and Furbee was eighth with a career-best mark of 6.33m (20-09.25).
  • Competing unattached for WLU, Reese Burnside finished tied for first in the pole vault with a mark of 4.55m (14-11.00), while Julius Hobbs recorded a third place vault of 3.80m (12-05.50).
  • Horan, who was the highest finishing Hilltopper in the shot put, just missed the cut for the finals as he was tenth with a mark of 11.86m (38-11.00).
  • West Liberty again had a trio of athletes qualify for the finals of an event, this time the triple jump, as Quinn Ashbrooke led the way with a third place and career-best mark of 13.03m (42-09.00), Baylor was sixth with a career-best mark of 12.80m (42-00.00), and AJ Cherico was eighth with a career-best mark of 11.87m (38-11.50).
  • Jacob Huffman led the decathlon athletes with a sixth place finish and point total of 3,572. In today's events he was third in the 110m hurdles with career-best a time of 17.90, third in the 1,500m run with a time of 5:23.31, sixth in the discus with a career-best mark of 19.33m, and eighth in the javelin with a mark of 19.93m.
  • Jonathan Stout was seventh in the decathlon with a career-best point total of 3,422. In today's events he was second in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:57.75, fourth in the pole vault with a career-best mark of 2.32m, sixth in the 110m hurdles with a career-best time of 21.38, seventh in the javelin with a mark of 23.62, and eighth in the discus with a mark of 18.30m.
  • Rounding out the West Liberty decathlon athletes was Malachi Stewart with a point total of 2,914. In today's events he was sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 1.92m, sixth in the javelin with a career-best mark of 23.86m, sixth in the 1,500m run with a time of 5:43.86, and seventh in the discus with a mark of 18.48.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WLU WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • A total of five Hilltoppers qualified for the finals in the 100m dash, as Sierra Lanham posted the fastest prelim time at 12.47, Ky'Ara Ross was second with a time of 12.69, Abbe Stackpole was fifth with a time of 12.89, Brookelyn Reynolds was sixth with a time of 13.05, and Madison Cadle was seventh with a time of 13.15. In the finals it was Ross who was first with a time 12.82, Lanham was second with a time of 12.87, Stackpole was fourth with a time of 12.94, Cadle was fifth with a time of 13.27, and Reynolds was seventh with a time of 13.91.
  • In the 100m hurdles, Hope Gestl used a fifth place prelim and career-best time of 16.27 to reach the finals where she ended sixth with a time of 16.82, while Marissa Scott was sixth in the prelims with a time of 16.77 and finished fifth in the finals with a time of 16.62.
  • WLU saw success in the 200m dash as Ross earned the win with a time of 26.46, Stackpole was third with a time of 27.20, Cadle was fifth with a time of 27.40, and Lanham was sixth with a time of 27.81.
  • Reynolds posted a third place finish in the 400m dash as she crossed the line in a time of 1:03.12.
  • Gestl earned a fourth place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:12.79, while Bailey Pack was fifth with a time of 1:20.36.
  • Lacey Dimit won the 800m run with a time of 2:25.41, and Morgan Lesnansky added a top-5 finish as she was fourth with a time of 2:41.11.
  • Lesnansky recorded a third place finish and career-best time of 5:09.07 in the 1,500m run.
  • Ally Hicks won the 3,000m steeplechase as she notched a career-best time of 12:38.35, and Emma Flynn added a third place finish and time of 13:30.17.
  • West Liberty was the lone team competing in the 4x100m relay as Emma Haley, Kaylee Savage, Jennifer DiLullo, and Kennedy Martin posted a time of 1:10.21.
  • The team of Gestl, Haley, Ross, and Savage ran to a time of 4:31.56 and second place finish in the 4x400m relay. The team of Pack, Hicks, Lesnansky, and Flynn recorded a fifth place finish and a time of 5:06.73 in the event.
  • Sierra Davis and Martin finished first and second in the discus throw respectively, recording marks of 40.73m (133-07) and 39.69m (130-02).
  • Martin was the highest finishing Hilltopper in the javelin throw as she rounded out the top-10 with a mark of 29.69 (97-05).
  • Ross won the long jump with a mark of 5.51m (18-01.00) while Lanham was third with a jump of 5.40m (17-08.75).
  • Scott notched a fourth place finish in the pole vault, clearing 2.31m (7-07.00).
  • A trio of WLU throwers reached the finals of the shot put as Davis was fourth with a mark of 10.83m (35-06.50), Savage was sixth with a mark of 10.34m (33-11.25), and Norris was ninth with a mark of 9.59m (31-05.75).
  • Zayne Brakeall earned a sixth place finish in the heptathlon, totaling a school-record and career-best 3,741 points after finishes of third in the javelin with a mark of 25.46m, ninth in the long jump with a mark of 4.75m, and ninth in the 800m run with a time of 2:39.80 in today's events.

West Liberty will be in action next Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, as they are set to compete at the Golden Eagle Invitational in Charleston, West Virginia.
