West Liberty, W.Va. – In a rescheduled match-up from last month, the West Liberty softball team will face their third opponent from the PSAC this season as they visit Seton Hill on Thursday, March 14, for a mid-week doubleheader. The Hilltoppers and the Griffins are scheduled for a 1 and 3 p.m. first pitch time at the SHU Softball Complex in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

WEST LIBERTY STORYLINES
- West Liberty enters Thursday's doubleheader with a 2-12 record on the season following a pair of road losses at Shippensburg on Friday, March 8, by scores of 9-0 (6 innings) and 12-4 (5 innings).
- The Hilltoppers were picked to finish fourth in the North Division of the 2024 MEC Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll following a third place finish a year ago with a 16-38 (12-20 MEC) record.
- Key position players returning for West Liberty include Kayla Mancuso, who earned Second Team All-MEC honors as an outfielder.
- As a team WLU is hitting .245 with 83 hits, 13 doubles, five homeruns, 32 RBI, and 40 runs scored through 14 games played this season.
- Sydney Johnson leads the team with a .349 batting average while posting an on-base percentage of .391, a slugging percentage of .442, and an on-base plus slugging percentage of .833. She has tallied 15 hits, four doubles, one RBI, and has scored five runs. Johnson has recorded a hit in six consecutive games.
- Sara Simon is the second player on the team to be hitting above .300 on the season as she is batting .333 with an on-base percentage of .419, a slugging percentage of .556, and an on-base plus slugging percentage of .975. She has recorded nine hits, three doubles, one homerun, seven RBI, and has scored one run in 2024.
- The Hilltoppers' pitching staff has recorded an ERA of 6.63, allowing 126 hits and 47 walks, while throwing 53 strikeouts. Opponents hold a .326 batting average against WLU pitchers.
- Madison Angus holds the lowest ERA among starting pitchers at 5.42 while recording a WHIP of 1.74 and has held opponents to a .280 batting average. She has thrown ten strikeouts on the year.
- Kadence Pettit, the 2023 MaxPreps West Virginia Player of the Year has made six starts in seven appearances to open her freshman campaign, pitching 27.1 innings thus far. She holds an ERA of 6.15 to go along with a 2.05 WHIP, an opponent's batting average of .338, and 26 strikeouts. With a record of 1-5 on the season she has struck out six or more batters in three games.
- Brooke Perri is the top relief pitcher for WLU with an ERA of 3.65 in five appearances and 7.2 innings pitched. She has recorded a 1-0 record to go along with a WHIP of 2.61 and an opponent's batting average of .300. She has two strikeouts in 2024.
- Sara Pelegreen is in her first season as the head coach at West Liberty with a record of 2-12 with the Hilltoppers. Overall, she is in her fifth season as a collegiate head softball coach and has compiled a career record of 71-142 which includes four prior seasons at Wheeling.
SETON HILL STORYLINES
- Seton Hill enters Thursday's doubleheader with a record of 11-5 on the season following a 14-4 win over Northwood and a 5-2 win over Lynn to close out their stay at The Spring Games in Florida on Friday, March 8.
- The Griffins finished with a 29-17 (22-8 PSAC) record a year ago, finishing first in the west division of the league standings before the season came to an end with an 0-2 record in the conference tournament. SHU was picked second in the west division of the 2024 PSAC Preseason Softball Coaches' Poll, picking up three first place votes.
- The Griffins return First Team All-PSAC East selections Nina Grandey and Lauren Dellet, who was also the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year, and Second Team All-PSAC East honorees Mackenzie Zang, Grace Paredes, and Brooke Cleland.
- As a team SHU is hitting .371 with 171 hits, 37 doubles, five triples, 21 homeruns, 127 RBI, and 135 runs scored through 16 games played this season.
- Grandey leads the team at the plate with a .527 batting average, a .574 on-base percentage, a .818 slugging percentage, and a 1.392 on-base plus slugging percentage. She has notched 29 hits, three doubles, two triples, three homeruns, 16 RBI, and has scored 24 runs. Grandey has recorded a hit in 14 of the 16 games this year.
- The second player above a .450 hitting percentage for Seton Hill is Kassidy Wittig who is batting .452 to go along with a .500 on-base percentage, a .581 slugging percentage, and a 1.081 on-base plus slugging percentage. She has tallied 14 hits, four doubles, four RBI, and ten runs scored.
- Other players to hit above .300 on the season include Morgan Toal (.429), Camryn Murphy (.418), Brooklyn Fukushima (.392), and Paredes (.327).
- The Griffins' pitching staff has recorded an ERA of 4.11, allowing 124 hits and 38 walks, while throwing 73 strikeouts. Opponents have held a .303 batting average against SHU pitchers.
- Dellett is the top pitcher for Seton Hill, holding a 2.38 ERA, to go along with a WHIP of 1.38, and an opponent's batting average of .269. She has posted a 5-3 record in eight starts and nine appearances as she has thrown seven complete games with three shutouts. In 47.0 innings of work in the circle she has collected 46 strikeouts.
- Another key pitcher to watch for the Griffins is Logan Hartman who holds a 4.63 ERA, a 1.65 WHIP, and has held opponents to a .303 batting average while recording a 6-2 record in eight starts and appearances. She has pitched 42.1 innings and has notched 24 strikeouts.
- Cassie Moore, the 2023 PSAC East Coach of the Year, is in her second season as the head coach at Seton Hill, posting a record of 40-22 during her time with the Griffins. Overall, she is in her seventh season as a collegiate head coach with a career record of 113-96-1 after spending one season at Newbury and four seasons at Bethany.
