Glenville, W.Va. – The West Liberty University acrobatics & tumbling team held the lead up until the final event on Saturday afternoon where they were narrowly edged by Glenville State, 265.915-264.740 in the Waco Center. The Pioneers won four of the six events on the day and overcame a deficit of 0.575 by using a 1.750 margin of victory in the team event to win the overall meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Liberty started the day by winning the opening event of the meet, compulsory, by a margin of 1.300 with scores of 37.550-36.250. The Hilltoppers scored 9.400 in the acro heat, 9.750 in both the pyramid and toss heats, and finished the compulsory event with an 8.650 in the tumbling heat.
- Glenville State started to chip away at the Hilltopper lead as they won the first of three consecutive events as they scored a 28.250-28.000 win in the acro portion of the meet. In the five-element heat Bella Paternoster, Abbey Swinderman, and Paige Lawrence scored a 9.700, in the six-element Avery Ray, Kallie Moses, Katie Emborsky, and Gabby Guldin scored 8.750, and lastly in the seven-element heat Kayla Gandy, Abbey Horvath, and Chloe Palmer scored 9.550.
- With a 28.650-28.350 win in the pyramid event, the Pioneers trimmed the WLU lead to 93.900-93.150 at the halftime break. In the inversion heat Gandy and Horvath scored 8.900, in the synchronized heat Gandy, Ray, Emborsky, and Swinderman scored 9.750, and in the open heat Gandy and Horvath scored 9.700.
- The third straight event win for Glenville State occurred in the toss as they notched a 27.550-27.000 victory. In the 450 salto heat Gandy scored 9.250, in the synchronized heat Gandy and Moses scored 8.800, and in the open Ray scored 8.950.
- The Hilltoppers won their second event of the night in tumbling, 51.400-51.025, extending their overall lead in the meet to 172.300-171.725, a margin of 0.575 entering the final event. In the duo heat Gandy and Audrey Prater scored 8.300, in the trio heat Moses, Gillian Hartz, and Paternoster scored 7.650, in the quad heat Ray, Cait Lowery, Horvath, and Elle Godby scored 8.050, in the aerial heat Gandy scored 9.450, in the six-element heat Hartz scored 9.175, and in the open Prater heat scored 8.775.
- The largest margin of victory of the day in an event, 1.750, allowed Glenville State to overcome West Liberty in the final team event by scores of 94.190-92.440.
