West Liberty, W.Va. - The West Liberty University men's basketball team earned a hard fought 84-71 win over previously unbeaten Virginia Union out of the CIAA Monday night.
A slow first half against the Panthers stingy 2-3 zone defense led to just a 32-28 Black and Gold lead at the half.
The second half was a different story as the Toppers were more effective against the zone.
One reason was the passing of Finley Woodward who led all players with seven assists in the game to go along with his team leading 16 points and five rebounds. JJ Harper joined him for team lead in points also with 16 points.
Kyler D'Augustino was once again in double-figures with 15. Freshman J.P. Dragas hit three triples to help give him 11 points on the night.
With the win the Toppers improve to 4-0 on the young season and will host Mountain East Conference newcomer Point Park Saturday at 4 p.m at the ASRC.
