West Liberty, W.Va. - The West Liberty University women's basketball team fell to Seton Hill in their home opener 89-72.
The Griffins entered the contest at 2-0 including a win over then No.7 Fairmont State. SHU led West Liberty(0-3) 22-13 after the first quarter and increased their lead to 45-27 at the half. The Hilltoppers struggled from the floor in the opening half shooting 30% from the floor overall and 2-14 from 3-point distance. The Griffins were able to turn 12 West Liberty turnovers into 19 points.
In the third quarter SHU would push their lead out to 28 with 3:24 left in the quarter, but from there the Toppers would out score the Griffins 34-23 and cut the lead to 13 with 7:18 remaining in the fourth on a three from Bailee Smith. WLU would get as close as 13 again following a three-point play from Paige Julian at 82-69 with 3:26 left.
Smith and Jenna Riccardo led the Toppers with 17 points and Anna Lucarelli added 13.
West Liberty did force the Griffins to turn the ball over 21 times, leading to 15 points.
