The West Liberty University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their outdoor season schedule this weekend with two more school records falling by the wayside.
Reese Burnside broke his own school record on Friday while competing in the pole vault at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio.
The stellar sophomore cleared the bar at 5.02 meters – 16 feet, 5.5 inches – at the meet. That's the top mark in the Atlantic Region this spring, easily surpassing the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 15 feet, 9.75 inches, and is tied for 16th place on the national NCAA Division II Performance List.
Senior vet Michael Harriman just missed an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 800 meters at Saturday's Last Chance Meet hosted by Lee University at the Ray Conn Sports Complex in Cleveland, Tenn. but still knocked a few ticks off his own school record.
Harriman's time of 1:51.88 was one of the top 10 times in the region this spring and a mere four-tenths of a second off the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 1:51.48.
The Hilltoppers also picked up a pair of wins in the Baldwin Wallace meet.
Mikhi Anderson blazed to victory in the 110 hurdles in a crisp 14.22 seconds, just five-hundredths of a second off his school-record and NCAA provisional qualifying 14.17 clocking earlier this month at the MEC Championships.
Liam Vinskovich, who posted an NCAA qualifying mark in the high jump of 6 feet, 11.5 inches at WVU last weekend, won the Baldwin Wallace event by clearing the bar at 2.04 meters or 6 feet, 8.25 inches.
Head coach Justin Simpson and his Hilltopper team will have their eyes glued to the NCAA.com website on Tuesday when the field of qualifiers for the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be announced.
The 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held Mary 25-27 in Pueblo, Colo. Colorado State University-Pueblo will host the event at the CSU-Pueblo ThunderBowl.
