BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – It will be déjà vu all over again for the West Liberty University acrobatics and tumbling team when WLU opens Mountain East Conference Tournament play on April 14 at Bobcat Arena on the campus of Frostburg State University.
Coach Kelsey Kyle's Hilltoppers (4-6, 3-2) earned the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 2 seed and defending tournament champion Fairmont State (8-1, 4-1) in the first semifinal meet at 5 p.m. West Liberty and the No. 7-ranked Falcons battled to the wire in Sunday's final regular season match before a strong performance in the Team Event helped Fairmont pull away to a 261.660-252.065 win.
The second semifinal on April 14 will send the top-seeded host Bobcats (8-2, 5-0), ranked No. 6 in the nation and unbeaten in MEC play this season, against No. 4 seed Glenville State (5-3, 2-3). It's scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
The semifinal winners return to Bobcat Arena at 3 p.m. on April 15 for the MEC Championship Meet. The MEC will hold its individual event finals that morning, beginning at 11 a.m. Qualifying for the individual event championships is based on the top three scores for each event during MEC competition. The list of individual event qualifiers will be released on April 12.
Championship tickets are now on sale (purchase online). Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 13-18. Children ages 12 and under will receive free admission. Students from MEC institutions will also be admitted free with a valid student ID.
In addition, links to live streams for all events along with semifinal and championship recaps will be available at Tournament Central.
