BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the qualifiers for Saturday's 2023 Acrobatics & Tumbling Individual Event Finals, which will be held in conjunction with this weekend's MEC Acrobatics & Tumbling Championships at Bobcat Arena on the campus of Frostburg State University.
Coach Kelsey Kyle's West Liberty squad posted qualifying scores in more than half of the 15 heats and will be competing for individual championships in eight events. The Hilltoppers came away with three championships in last year's competition, winning the 5-Element Acro, Aerial Tumbling Pass and 6-Element Tumbling Pass.
The individual event qualifiers represent the top three regular season scores posted by an MEC team in each heat during the Acro, Pyramid, Toss and Tumbling events over the course of the season. Only scores recorded in conference meets were eligible for consideration. The Individual Event Finals will get under way Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Bobcat Arena mats.
West Liberty opens MEC Tournament play on Friday when the No. 3-seeded Black and Gold take on No. 2 seed and defending champion Fairmont State in a 5 p.m. semifinal. Host Frostburg State, unbeaten in MEC play this season and the No. 1 tournament seed, closes out the semifinal round with a 7:30 p.m. match against No. 4 seed Glenville State. The MEC championship match is set for 3 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets for all sessions of the MEC Championships are now available online, priced at $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 13-18. Children aged 12 and under are admitted free along with students from MEC institutions with a valid student ID.
