Hilltoppers Post 12 Top-5 Finishes at Mount Union’s Toy Drive Invite

Alliance, Ohio – The West Liberty University men's and women's track & field teams posted a total of 12 top-5 finishes in Saturday's Toy Drive Invite. Highlighting the results were event wins by Daminn Cunningham (long jump) and Mikhi Anderson (60m hurdles), while Reese Burnside (pole vault) and Sierra Lanham (long jump) posted second place finishes.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – WLU MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Joshua Fancher opened the day for the WLU men with a sixth place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 14.20m (46' 7.25").
  • The Hilltoppers took three of the top seven spots in the pole vault competition as Reese Burnside led the way with a second place finish and vault of 4.60m (15' 1"). Crisitan Penaloza tied for fifth and Julius Hobbs tied for second with respective marks of 4.00m (13' 1.5") and 3.85m (12' 7.5").
  • Mikhi Anderson and Daminn Cunningham notched fifth and sixth place finishes respectively in the high jump as they both completed jumps of 1.92m (6' 3.5").
  • Cunningham secured the win in the long jump with a jump of 6.79m (22' 3.5") while BriJuan Baylor was fourth with a mark of 6.51m (21' 4.25").
  • Fancher turned in another top performance in the shot put as he posted a throw of 15.69m (51' 5.75") for third place.
  • Lorenzo Ferrera advanced to the finals of the 60m dash with a time of 7.03 in the preliminaries and finished second in the finals with a time of 6.94. Nathan Baker competed in the prelims but did not advance, posting a personal-best time of 7.09 and finishing tenth overall.
  • Anderson advanced to the finals of the 60m hurdles with a prelim time of 8.28 and won the event with a time of 8.20 in the finals.
  • In the 400m dash, Arthur Williams turned in a time of 52.48 for a ninth place finish.
  • Francis Toohey recorded a third place finish in the 800m run, crossing the line in a time of 2:01.24.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WLU WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Sierra Lanham and Ky'Ara Ross opened the day with second and third place finishes in the long jump, notching marks of 5.42m (17' 9.5") and 5.34m (17' 6.25") respectively.
  • Ross posted a personal-best time of 8.01 and finished second in the preliminaries of the 60m dash, while Lanham notched a time of 8.08 and finished fifth as they both advanced to the event finals. In the finals Lanham finished fifth with a time of 8.06 while Ross was sixth with a time of 8.11.

The West Liberty University men's and women's track & field teams will next be in action January 20 when they travel to the Ashland Invitational.
