Combs Takes Sole Possession of Pole Vault Record

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A week after tying the school record, sophomore Olivia Combs took sole possession of the pole vault record, clearing 3.35m to headline day one of the Youngstown State University Mid Major Invitational for the West Liberty University women's indoor track and field team Friday. 

Combs started the day by going over the 3.05m and 3.20m bars on her first tries. Then, on her third and final attempt Combs vaulted over 3.35m (10ft, 11.75 in) for a new school record.

Hailey Carreon ran a sub-eight for the first time this season leading the Hilltoppers in the 60m dash with a time of 7.99 finishing 10th. Maggie Kovalcik was just a hundredth of a second behind coming in 11th place out of 83 runners.

Sydney Jefferys threw a 14.74m (48ft, 4.5in) on her first weight throw attempt and that would hold as a team-best. Jefferys finished in seventh place on the 60-athlete leaderboard. Suzan Johnson tossed it 13.64m (44ft, 9in) on her final attempt placing 15th.

Zayne Brakeall, Tori Fisher, and Ivy Allen all competed in the pentathlon. Brakeall led the trio with a 10.20 in the 60m hurdles and a 1.40m (4ft, 7in) high jump, while Fisher posted team bests in the long jump (4.85m / 15ft, 11in) and shotput (8.41m / 27ft, 7.25in), and Allen posted a 2:38.93 in the 800m run.
